Days of Lumblija in Blato
LUMBLIJA – IT’S WILL AND LOVE
Lumblija, a traditional yeast cake, tells a story of love, memory, and connection to one’s homeland. Its unique aroma is created through carefully selected ingredients like almonds, walnuts, oranges, lemons, and varenik – grape must syrup, which requires a long preparation process to produce Lumblija’s distinctive flavor.
Known as the “cake of remembrance,” Lumblija carries deep symbolism. Every year in early November, its scent brings a sense of nostalgia, binding people to their ancestors, family, and loved ones, even those far away or no longer with us. Lumblija is the first protected product in the Dubrovnik-Neretva region with a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), and its production preserves the cultural heritage of Korčula.
