28th Maraton lađa – Traditional Boat Marathon on the Neretva River
The 28th Maraton lađa will take place on Saturday, August 10, 2025, on the scenic Neretva River in southern Croatia. This unique traditional boat race spans 22.5 kilometers, from Metković to Ploče, featuring crews competing in historic wooden boats known as lađe, once used by locals for transport and trade.
Conceived as part of a week-long program titled “Lađa Week on the Neretva”, the Maraton lađa is the highlight of a vibrant seven-day celebration of heritage, sport, and community spirit. The program includes several other exciting competitions, such as the Women’s Maraton lađarica, sprint races, and an aerobatic flyover, showcasing both tradition and thrill.
Throughout the Neretva Valley, spectators can enjoy a rich lineup of entertainment, cultural performances, culinary events, and adrenaline-filled experiences, making this one of the most dynamic and festive events in Croatia.
Visitors are invited to witness this extraordinary blend of tradition, competition, and celebration that brings together thousands of people in honor of the Neretva River and its proud history.
