Ponta Lopud Jazz Festival
The festival program on Lopud has been enriched by the presence of top jazz artists, including jazz master Kenny Werner, a Grammy-nominated pianist who is also the director of the Effortless Mastery Institute at Berklee College of Music. Additionally, visitors will enjoy performances by Linda May Han Oh, a Grammy-winning bassist who leads the dynamic group The Glass Hours, and Nicole Zuraitis, a Grammy-winning vocalist who will perform with her quartet. Thana Alexa, a singer whose album ONA (2021) was Grammy-nominated, will also perform on Lopud, along with special guests, the multi-award-winning musicians Antonio Sanchez and Michael League. This impressive group of internationally recognized artists will be on the island as performers and mentors throughout the festival.
A special group of musicians from Croatia and neighboring countries will be personally invited to participate in the festival. The goal is to create a community through daily discussions about the state of the music industry, performances, evening jam sessions, and unforgettable experiences offered by the island of Lopud.
„This festival is not just a musical event but an opportunity for young talents to improve with the support of top world jazz musicians. The Ponta Lopud Jazz Festival promises an unforgettable experience for all participants and visitors,” emphasized Tilda Grossel Bogdanović, founder of the creative platform Ponta Lopud.
Each morning of the festival will begin with an open conversation as part of a masterclass, involving the jazz master and band members. After the conversation, there will be a second masterclass and/or participant jam session led by the festival mentors – musicians from each performing band. These workshops are designed for young professionals to hone their skills and exchange creative ideas with world-class musicians who bring a global perspective to Lopud.
„My mission is to bring world-renowned artists to Lopud, whom I had the opportunity to meet outside of Croatia, and to include incredibly talented musicians from Croatia and the region in this combination. The first edition of Ponta Lopud Jazz exceeded all our expectations. We witnessed the magic of creating art, mutual complementing, support, and true love for music,” stressed Thana Alexa, co-founder and artistic director of the Ponta Lopud Jazz Festival.
Admission to jazz concerts is free for all visitors, and during the festival from August 29 to 31, free boat transfer via Argosy is organized for the audience from Dubrovnik, departing daily from Gruž port (opposite the market) and from Lopud in front of the Lafodia Hotel.
