If you wish to recharge your batteries before the arrival of autumn and experience the most beautiful island adventure, head towards Vela Luka in mid-September and partake in Vela Luka Outdoors Festival.
This multi-day sports event has been known for years as the most interesting sports weekend in Dalmatia and each year it attracts an increasing number of runners, cyclists and adventurers for numerous reasons.With over 100 km of hiking and cycling trails passing through centuries-old olive groves, beside beaches, vineyards, pine forests, along endless dry-stone walls, abandoned round and dry-stone cottages – Vela Luka remains a perfect destination for adventure tourism.
Vela Luka Outdoors Festival opens with lectures and screenings of adventure movies, while the children can entertain themselves in the climbing and parkour school or on the slack and zip line. A diverse offer preceding the races is ideal for families with children where each family member can find something for themselves.
The central day hosts 4 races:
-Children’s race for kindergarten and school children up to 10 years of age.
-MTB, 25 km bicycle race.
-Two trail races, Vela strka (22 km trail route) and Mala strka (11 km trail route) are unique for the starting up in front of Vela spila cave- a prehistoric site more than 20,000 years old.
A rich dinner, along with a medal award ceremony and rock concerts make an indispensable part of this event.
The final, and also the happiest day of this adventure is the after party on Proizd island. All competitors participating in the races are entitled to a free trip to the nearby Proizd island, where they can socialize and swim, race in kayaks, play bocce ball, and have lunch together as the finishing touch of this manifestation.
